Table Tennis: Commercial Credit and MAS Intimates win titles

The 58th Mercantile Table Tennis League Championship 2015 came to a conclusion on a high note at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium last weekend when Commercial Credit and MAS Intimates emerged winners in the Men’s and Women’s ‘A’ Divisions respectively.   Organised and conducted by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka, 38 mercantile teams from 20 firms took part in this tournament in five divisions.   Many former Sri Lanka national stars took part in this tourney, representing their firms’ added extra glamour by displaying high quality of Table Tennis which were admired by the present day peddlers.   Though they were not quick in footwork but yet exhibited that they had not lost the touch of yesteryear.   In the Men’s ‘A’ Division final Commercial Credit’s 3-1 victory over Seylan Bank was fashioned with the representation of former national runner-up Chameera Ginige, Sukitha Wickremanayake and Pubudu Channaka.   In the Women’s ‘A’ Finals a star-studded MAS Intimates defeated Seylan Bank 2-0 without much difficulty.   Former national champions Kalpani Herath, Srimali Wimalaratne along with former Tennis champion Sujani Bogollagama made use of their experience which gave the opponents a hard time in coping with the barrage of attacks to be the architecs of this victory.   Winners of respective Divisions: Men’s A Division: Champions – Commercial Credit; Runner-up – Seylan Ban Women’s ‘A’ Division: Champions – MAS Intimates; Runner-up – Seylan Bank Men’s ‘B’ Division: Champions – Astron Sports Club ‘A’; Runner-up – Singer Sri Lanka ‘A’ Women’s ‘B’ Division: Champions – Sri Lankan Airlines ‘A’; Runner-up – Millennium IT ‘A’ Men’s ‘C’ Division: Champions – Commercial Bank ‘A’; Runner-up – Unilever Sports Club ‘B’ Men’s ‘D’ Division: Champions – Amana Bank; Runner-up – Commercial Bank ‘C’ Men’s ‘E’ Division: Champions – Code Gen ‘A’; Runner-up – Unilever Sports Club ‘F’
