Table Tennis: Open Men, Women steal the show

Open Men's and Women's events stole the limelight at the Open All Island Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2016 for the Western Province Chief Minister's Challenge Trophy organised by the Western Province Table Tennis Association and worked off at the S. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium.
 
In the Men's Open Singles B.N.B. Jayasinghe of MAS Intimates, who was expected to give a tough time to Chameera Ginige of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, failed to live up to his reputation and went down 1-4 to Jayasinghe, while in the Women's Singles it was anybody's game as the match went to the deciding 7th set, where Visakhian Hansani Piumila clinched a hard fought 4-3 win over Ishara Madurangi of Stag Table Tennis Academy. 

In the Men's Open Doubles, Sri Lanka captain Rohan Sirisena and Milinda Lakshitha won a pulsating 3-2 victory over schoolboy sensation Udaya Ranasinghe and Singles champion B.N.B. Jayasinghe. 

The Women's Open Doubles finals was an inter-school affair with Visakhians Chamatsara Fernando and Hansani Piumila overcoming Ochini Dissanayake and Samadhi Hettiarachchi 3-0, who went down fighting. 

In the other age groups singles events fancied players were worthy winners.
