Sri Lanka juniors winning streak at the Pre-Qualifying Junior Davis Cup tournament came to an end when they went down to Syria in the final by two sets to one which was played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo on Saturday (9).
The three set match was deadlocked at one each after the completion of the two singles encounters with Chathurya Nilaweera winning for Sri Lanka and Taym Al Azmeh for Syria.
The deciding doubles between Sri Lanka’s Chathurya Nilaweera/Chilvan Herath and Syria’s pair Taym Al Azmeh/Pierre Djaroueh saw the Syrians coming out on top with a hard fought 2-1 win.
However, the two teams by virtue of qualifying to the final of the Pre-Qualifying Junior Davis Cup tournament will get the opportunity of participating at the forthcoming final qualifying round tournament scheduled to be played in Thailand from April 6 to 14.
