U-19 Cricket: Sri Lanka beat England by 24 runs for series whitewash

Opener Avishka Fernando hammered 138 as Sri Lanka Under-19s beat England Under-19s by 24 runs in the third and final Youth ODI to earn a series whitewash at Canterbury in England on Tuesday (16).

Electing to bat first Sri Lanka posted 300 and restricted England for 276 to win the series 3-0 after recording a 1-0 series win in the Youth Tests. 

Openers Dilan Jayalath and Fernando put on 149 runs for Sri Lanka as the duo laid the foundation to a good total. 

Dilan made 67 off 77 deliveries with six boundaries and a six. 

Fernando was the next batsman to be dismissed but by then he had put on 107 runs for the second wicket with skipper Charith Asalanka, who made 30 off 40 deliveries with two fours and a six.

Fernando's elegant innings of 138 came from 134 deliveries inclusive of 15 fours and four sixes. 

Ben Green picked three wickets while George Panayi and Ben Twohig claimed two wickets each. 

England in their run-chase lost wickets at regular intervals despite two good knocks from Ollie Pope and George Hankins. 

Pope hit 87 off 78 balls inclusive of eight fours and a six while Hankins made 79 off 93 balls inclusive of seven boundaries. 

Wanindu Hasaranga picked three wickets while Damitha Silva and Lahiru Kumara claimed two wickets each.
