U-19 Cricket: Sri Lanka thrash England by 108 runs to win first Youth ODI

Skipper Charith Asalanka's allround performance steered Sri Lanka Under-19s to a convincing 108-run win against England Under-19s in the first Youth ODI played at Wormsley in England on Wednesday (10).

Electing to bat first Sri Lanka piled up 257-7 with Asalanka making the top contribution of 70 off 96 balls with eight boundaries as he returned to capture two scalps and help skittle out England for 149 with 57 deliveries to spare.  

Sammu Ashan remained unbeaten for Sri Lanka with a solid knock of 60 off 62 deliveries which included six fours. 

Wanindu Hasaranga (37 off 47 balls with 4 fours) and Avishka Fernando (30 off 47 balls with 3 fours and 1 six) chipped in with valuable knocks for Sri Lanka. 

England struggled from the inception and lost wickets at regular intervals despite fighting knocks from opener Max Holden (40 off 69 balls with 4 fours) and Zen Malik (32 off 60 balls with 3 fours). 

Damitha Silva captured three scalps while Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Thilan Prasan picked two wickets each. 

The second Youth ODI will between the two sides will be played on Saturday (13) at Chelmsford followed by the third and final game at St. Lawrence come Tuesday (16).
