U-19 WC: Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in low scoring game

Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 23 runs in a low scoring Group ‘B’ match of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup played at Mirpur in Bangaldesh on Tuesday (3).

Put into bat a decent bowling attack by Sri Lanka helped them bowl out Pakistan for 212 with eight deliveries remaining but a furious bowling attack by the Pakistanis forced the Lankans to end their run chase at 189 with 20 deliveries remaining.

Pakistan were troubled from the beginning as they lost wickets at regular intervals. 

Middle-order batsman Hasan Mohsin, who became the player of the match,  top scored for Pakistan with a run-a-ball 86 which included eight fours and a six and followed by capturing two Lankan wickets. 

Salman Fayyaz hit 33 off 49 with three fours and a six as top-order batsmen Mohammad Umar (26) and Saif Badar (24) anchoring the Pakistan innings earlier on with defensive knocks. 

Wanindu Hasaranga, Thilan Nimesh and Damitha Silva took two wickets each while Asitha Fernando and Charith Asalanka claimed a scalp each. 

Kamindu Mendis top scored for Sri Lanka with a patient knock of 68 which came off 104 deliveries inclusive of five fours. 

Later on Vishad Randika made a useful contribution with a 71-ball 46 inclusive of five boundaries. 

Shadab Khan claimed three wickets while Ahmad Shafiq, Hasan Mohsin and Sameen Gul picked two wickets each. 

Sri Lanka will take on England in the quarter-final stage at Dhaka on Sunday (7).
