Team Kandy recorded a close 13-run victory against Team Dambulla in the opening match of the SLC Women's Super Provincial Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at SSC today (25).
Team Dambulla, under the captaincy of the experienced Chamari Atapattu, scored 132 for the loss of 4 wickets, and when rain halted play in the 17th over Team Kandy were 120 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
The required target according to Duckworth/Lewis Method in the 17th over was 107 runs, and Team Kandy was 13 runs ahead when the game was stopped.
Harshitha Samarawickrama top scored with 66 runs off 49 balls for the winners, hitting nine fours and a six.
She was well supported by Sathya Sandeepani, who scored 23 runs from 27 deliveries.
For Team Dambulla, Hansima Karunaratne top scored with 42 runs off 45 deliveries, and Prasadani Weerakkody hit a 39-ball 41.
The tournament was scheduled to kick off on Sunday (24) but due to bad weather both games slotted for the day were rescheduled for Tuesday (26).
The second game scheduled for today between Team Colombo and Team Galle was abandoned due to rain.
