Translated by Jayalath S. Gomes from the English version into Sinhalese, the plot of the play with the title ‘His Awakashaye Putuwa Aran’ contains a relevance beyond national cultural frames.
The play revolves around a man who is sitting on a chair. He stays sitting and does not stand up. All his friends leave him because he does not want to say why he is sitting there. Then Paula comes along. She does not want to know why he is sitting there. She wants him to stand up and become her adventure.
‘Important questions roused by the play are posed in a comical and playful manner. And in Hawemann’s play there is something for actors who want to show everything they are capable of’ said director Safeer speaking about the play to TV Times.
It is played by Nalaka Ginendra and Nadeeka Tharangani and the behind the screen lighting designer is Wasantha Kumara, stage manager is S. Dayalan and the play is sponsored by the Goethe-Institute.
‘His Awakashaye Putuwa Aran’ will also have two special shows on March 20 2009 at Performing Art University Colombo and at 2.00 pm and 4.00 p.m. on April 10 at Nuwara Eliya. |
