I am a permanent resident of Canada, but I travel almost every year to the land of my birth. I am 72 years old and disabled, and I need a wheelchair to get about.
I get priority treatment when I check in at Toronto and London Heathrow airports, and I do not have to wait in line to clear immigration, customs and luggage.
But when I disembark in Colombo, I have to wait in a queue, and the same happens when I leave the country.
I was under the impression that the old, the feeble, and the disabled, as well as families with young children, were given special treatment, and did not have to wait in queues.
My son has written letters to the newspapers on this matter, but the authorities have done nothing about it.
I hope this letter will catch the eye of the President, the relevant Minister and officials responsible for this sorry state of affairs, especially at the check-in counter at Katunayake.
