American International School, a leading private educational facility with a state-of-the-art infrastructure, ensures a conducive environment for learning through personalized techniques of imparting knowledge.
"With around 400 students, we restrict admissions to 20 to 25 children per class so that there is personalized attention and care to give them a quality and enhanced education", says Mrs. Kanthi Perera, the Student Coordinator of American International School.
"With Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) monitoring all classrooms, to ensure student safety, we offer our students a host of modern facilities including fully-equipped Computer, Chemistry, Physics and Biology laboratories", she said. Established 12 years ago, this prestigious International School is wholly owned and operates under the wing of the American College of Higher Education (ACHE), a top educational institution offering American degrees in Sri Lanka.
"Our students work towards earning London GCE Ordinary Levels and GCE Advanced Levels", Mrs. Perera noted and we have a good library to support this.
Other than the usual subjects English, Maths, Science, Computer, History, Geography and so on, we also teach Religion as a subject", she said. "All religions are given prominence and allocated equal time each week".
Elocution is also part of the curriculum, Mrs. Perera noted. "It is taught as a subject to improve the language and oratory skills of students".
"During this relatively short span, we have excelled in both educational and co-curricular activities as well as sports", she said.
The American International School bagged honours at the International Assessment of Schools (IAS)Exam conducted by the University of New South Wales(UNSW), Australia by clinching 2 international awards and 5 national (regional) awards.
"2650 schools and over 315,000 students from 16 countries participated at this examination and we won 2 of the much coveted 127 international UNSW gold medals and also 5 of the Macmillan gold medals for the regional toppers", Mrs. Dahanayake, the Principal explained. She also stressed the fact that it was because her panel of teachers were highly qualified many having Bachelor's and Masters degrees or were first class trained teachers that this was possible.
"This was a singular achievement as we emerged winners from amongst 2650 schools in 16 countries within the SAARC and Middle East regions", she said.
The School's sports activities - cricket, football, swimming, basketball, badminton etc. are being developed under the guidance of Gerry Chandrasena, the Sports Manager, she said.
She said that the American International School recently brought down Prof. Patrick Smith from the United States to conduct a basketball clinic for the American International School students.
"Since he is an excellent coach the management decided to share his expertise free of charge with the Sri Lankan students as well and invited many schools to Royal College for a free basketball clinic" Ms. Perera said.
Over 120 school children who were basket ball players turned up for the clinic including St. Joseph's College, Maradana, St. John's College, St Joseph's Convent, Nugegoda and many others.
Fees levied from students are on par with the School's modern infrastructure, she said. "They are reasonable when you take into account the quality education and facilities on offer".
The American International School is located at No. 285/1, Quarry Road, Off Hill Street, Dehiwala, and Ms. Kanthi Perera.can be contacted on 0773867994 if you would like any further information.
