Construction industry to boom in six months

Rocell Bathware Ltd is expecting the construction industry to boom within the next six months, despite the slow pace it is going through now, according to a senior company official.

"The interest rate trending down as well as North and East development will boost the growth in the industry within the next six months," Tharana Thoradeniya, Director/CEO of the company told the Sunday Times FT on the sidelines of a media conference to launch the company's bath ware factory last week. He said that Rocell Bathware, which is a result of tile manufacturer, Royal Ceramics (Rocell) diversification stratify, will be pursuing customers in India, Australia, Maldives and the Middle East (which are Rocell's tile exporting markets). With an infusion of over Rs. 1.8 billion investment into the total facility covering approximately 200,000 square feet and with an annual rated production capacity of 250,000 pieces, the factory has the capability to produce vitreous China (Porcelain) bath ware products as well as large format fine fire clay products.

"This facility is equipped with the latest innovations in production and process technologies. Two of the world's leading bath ware technology providers, UNIMAK of Turkey and SACMI of Italy have been the lead suppliers of machinery and technology. Equipped with a ninety cubic meter kiln, semi pressure casting machines, automated driers and robotic glazing lines, we have the leeway to produce a range of sophisticated products," Mr. Thoradeniya said. He said the lead designers of the design studios Sisa of Milan and Modelli of Rome have worked to produce a range of bath ware.

“The company has tied-up with a host of European raw material suppliers to source the world's best raw materials for the manufacturing process including from Sibelco of England- the highest quality clay supplier to the global bath ware market. The laboratory has the capability to conduct R&D and product quality assurance procedures, in-house. A dedicated product-testing laboratory carries out functional tests on finished products. These include equipment to conduct dimensional stability tests, tests to determine weight bearing capabilities, flush and disposal testing as well as leakage testing" he said.
