Godamanne to defend his title

Defending Champion Harshana Godamanne will headline the 94th Tennis Nationals which will get under way at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) Courts on August 29.

Godamanne who will be defending his title against the likes of Davis Cup doubles partner Rajeev Rajapakse, Rohan de Silva, Jayendra Wijesekera and Dinesh Kanthan to name just a few.
There are numerous categories including the women’s and men’s open singles and doubles, and mixed doubles.

For the veterans, there are the usual events like over 40 mixed doubles, men’s over 45 singles and doubles, men’s over 55 singles and doubles, men’s over 65 Singles and doubles.
The main draw will consist of 32 players while the rest will fall in to qualifying rounds.

The men’s singles and doubles will consist of five sets from the first round in preparation for the Davis Cup and also to improve the overall standard and fitness of players. Wheelchair Tennis events will also be included in the championship. The prize money has been increased by 40% compared to last years Nationals in some of the events. (HJ)
