From battlefield to making music

The Sri Lanka Armoured Corps having fulfilled their obligations to the nation in the battlefield, have embarked on a campaign to raise funds to improve the welfare facilities extended to families of their comrades killed and wounded in battle.

First on their agenda is "Melody of Peace - 2009" a musical event which the Armoured Corps have dubbed “the musical extravaganza of the year" that will be held on September 19 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium at 7 p.m.

Two of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, Sunil Perera and the "Gypsies" and Nalin Perera and the "Marians" will appear together on stage. Also performing will be the dancers of the "Prasadi Dance Academy."

"It was before becoming an artist, that I became a Sri Lankan and this will be the perfect tribute to the armed forces that have freed this country from the war against terror," said Nalin Perera speaking at a news conference on the event.

The Army personnel responsible for the organisation of this event are Brigadier Indunil Ranasinghe, Brigadier Janaka Ratnayake and Major General Niranjan Ranasinghe.

The sponsors for this event are Sri Lanka Telecom, Cosmic Technologies, MPI Group and WSR Fernando & Company Pvt Ltd.
