Recent breakthroughs and cutting-edge research in Molecular Life Sciences from world-class scientists will be discussed at the International Conference on Frontiers in Molecular Life Sciences, to be held in Colombo at the Ceylon Continental Hotel on September 17 and 18. The conference has been organised by the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo, which is celebrating five years since its inception.
Eighteen lectures and presentations will be given by eminent scientists who are experts in their fields. These will include keynote lectures by Prof. Ulf Pettersson, Professor of Medical Genetics, University of Uppsala, Sweden, on Genomic Medicine and its Future Implications; and Prof. Janet Hemingway, Director, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom, on Molecular Mechanism of Insecticide Resistance.
Plenary lectures will include Molecular Mechanisms of Growth by Prof. L. Gortner, Professor of Paediatrics, Saarland University Hospital, Germany; World of micro RNA by Emeritus Prof. Eric Karunanayake, University of Colombo; DNA Analysis in Forensic and Historical Investigations by Dr. Marie Allen, University of Uppsala, Sweden, (the forensic DNA expert who helped to identify the putative remains of Nicolaus Copernicus); and Management of Genomic and Proteomic Data (Bioinformatics) by Dr. Erik Bongcam-Rudloff, Chairman, European Molecular Biology Network (EMBnet).
Other presentations and symposia will discuss cancer genetics and molecular medicine, advances in molecular biological technologies and bioinformatics, molecular biology of vector borne diseases, plant genomics and applications of molecular biology in agriculture.
The main conference will be followed by a Post Conference Workshop (September 19, 20 and 21) on Bioinformatics co-sponsored by EMBnet. For further information see their website: www.ibmbb.lk/conference2009/index.htm, or call the IBMBB: 011-2552528. |
