Send the PMG a letter to say Jaffna has been liberated

“The War is Over. The Entire North and East have been Liberated. The A-9 Road is Open for Public Transport. The Situation is Back to Normal.”

These are the news headlines we see every day. But the Post Master-General and the Postal Department seem not to have noticed these headlines. Go to any post office and tell the postmaster or counter officer that you want to send a parcel to Jaffna and the answer is invariably thus: “You can send parcels to any place in Sri Lanka, but not to Jaffna.”

“Why is that so, sir?”“I don’t know. Ask the PMG. But he is busy.” The PMG is so busy that does not know that the war is over, and that the entire North has been liberated from the clutches of the terrorists, and that normalcy prevails in the country.

Until someone convinces the Post Master-General that the war is over, the circular banning parcel post facilities to Jaffna will remain in place.
