Colombo Fashion Week, next scheduled for early February 2010 has shown steady growth, gaining in reputation as an important fashion event in South Asia. CFW is featured in Vogue India’s anniversary issue, (October 2009).
The October 2009 issue of Vogue India picked seven best designers at CFW 2009. Along with the established names like Darshi and Fahad, there was a new crop that included Sarani and LICC jeans. Such exposure boosts the local fashion design industry by providing motivation and encouragement to young designers.
Colombo Fashion Week sees international media exposure as an important step in making Sri Lankan designers known in the region. “To us this is a matter of great satisfaction, seeing Sri Lankan talent being featured in Vogue.
In the past we have regularly been featured in other international magazines, this is the first in Vogue. It also shows we are well set on our path to gain international recognition for Lankan fashion designers,” said Ajai V. Singh, Founder and organiser of Colombo Fashion Week. “You will see a few more new exciting designers in 2010 adding to a growing list of strong Sri Lankan labels and designers,” he added.
Other leading Indian magazines like Elle, Jade, Hi Blitz etc also featured the Colombo Fashion Week in recent issues. |
