The recently concluded Blue and Gold Quiz, organized by the Royal College General Knowledge Club (RCGKC), was definitely a challenge for all those involved. Held for the 19th consecutive year, 30 teams battled it out recently for the prestigious Blue and Gold Challenge Trophy, at the Royal College Main Hall.
Ananda College, Colombo clinched the trophy for the second time, having earlier won it in 2003.
Thurstan College and Musaeus College were declared joint-runners up after having a close tussle with Ananda College. While the winners carried away the Blue and Gold Challenge Trophy, certificates and medals, all the contestants were awarded a certificate for their participation. This year too, the outstation schools’ participation was significant, with schools from areas such as Galle, Kurunegala, Naththandiya and Eheliyagoda participating.
Lasith Gunawardena, a Past Quiz Team Captain of Royal College and currently a senior lecturer at Department of Information Technology, University of Sri Jayawardenapura, was the Chief Guest of the event. Past Quiz Team Captains of Royal College Tharindu Randeny and Neomal De Silva were the quiz masters of the day.
Student Chairman of RCGKC Kasun Kiriwandeniya paid his gratitude to Principal Mr. H.A.U. Gunasekara and teachers-in-charge Ms. K.L.M. Kalupahana and Ms. Disna Ranjani for the guidance and support they’ve provided to make the event a success. He also appreciated Past Quiz Team members’ contribution in conducting this quiz, keeping its status as the longest running quiz in Sri Lanka.
Synergy School of Marketing was the main sponsor for the event, for the second consecutive year, while ACCA was the co-sponsor. Max Television was the electronic media sponsor, while the Sunday Times came in as the print media sponsor. |
