Jayantha Chandrasiri’s ‘Satharadenek Senpathiyo’ bagged the Best Drama and the Best Director at the recently concluded 14th Sumathi Tele Awards at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium.
‘Sathara Denek Senpathiyo’ became the Best Drama and Chandrasiri the Best Director while Best Actor and Best Actress awards were won by Sriyantha Mendis and Vasanthi Chathurani for their performances in ‘Sadgunakaraya’. Later award winning script writer Tissa Abeysekara was adjudged the Best scriptwriter for his script for ‘Karuwala Gedara’.
Young Chandika Nanayakkara became the Most Popular actor while Nehara Peiris won the Most Popular actress. Experienced Veena Jayakody was adjudged the Best supporting actress (Sudu Kapuru Pethi) while talented Prasannajith Abeysuriya (Hendewa) won the Best supporting actor’s award.
For the performance played in ‘Sasara Bendi Bemi’ Saranga Dissasekara became the Best up and coming actor and Upeksha Swarnamali of Samanalunta Wedi Thiyanna won Best up and coming actress prize.
Veteran cameraman Donald Karunaratne (Kampithawila)proved his expertise as the Best Cameraman while Navaratne Gamage (Sudu Kapuru Pethi) won the Best music director’s award.
Merit awards were presented to Anuruddhika Padukkage, Avanthi Aponso, Sunil Costa, Nirosha Abeysinghe and Shirley P. Delankawela.
