VOTE for Third Time

The successful third season of the VOTE (Voice of Television) short film festival is now on for filmmakers who are dreaming of making movies and becoming movie makers.

Organised by CITY HITZ channel of Dialog TV, the festival gave birth to nearly 20 young filmmakers with their fresh talents in the two previous seasons.

In the first season ten young filmmakers, Indrajith Mahawaduge, Bhanu Prasanna, Hemantha Prasad, Dhanushka Weerakooe, Suresh Wickremasinghe, Thilina Alahakone, Sujeewa Gunaratne, Janaka Tilakarathne, Athula Jayasinghe and Dilan de Silva became finalists and their films had been shown on television.

The second season was commenced and the ten finalists were Dinithi Jayasekara, Iresh Lokubandara, Dinushka Wattegama, Geethani Seneviratne, Bimal Dushmantha, Thisara Thulwan, Dinuka Nimantha, Nalin Chaminda Meemanage and Upali Gamlath.

“The main aim of this festival is to introduce young filmmakers for the future,” said Nimal Lakshapthiarachchi, Chief Executive Officer and Director of CITY HITZ who organised the festival.

“We are proud of the fact that we were able to produce 20 young qualified filmmakers so far to the future film industry and some of them have already started to work on films as assistant directors, cameramen and other technical crew members,” he said.

Among the other aims of the festival is taking the art of short films to the Sri Lankan audience. “The medium of short films has no recognition among the Sri Lankan film audience,” Lakshapthiarachchi said.

Most important aspect of this festival is that all the youngsters who work in the digital medium are confident about the digital technology and they would definitely use the it cutting 45% of the ordinary cost of making a film.

Speaking about the CITY HITZ Lakshapathiarachchi said that that channel which is run by On Air World Ceylon Private Ltd is planning to promote the channel to be something like HBO which is totally dedicated to movies and the cinema industry.

VOTE Film Festival also had conducted Travel Film Festivals in several universities including the University of Colombo, University of Peradeniya and Horana Sripali Aesthetic University with much appreciation from the young under graduates.
