The first ever festival of music, drama, dance and film at ‘Back Box’, the newly introduced alternative theatre by Inter Act Art will be held from February 15 to 28 at Rajagiriya.
Two week festival titled ‘Sri Lanka Theatre Festival 10’ with a variety of various performing arts would be a refreshing experience to many an art lovers. This is the first time that Black Box Theatre, the concept widely popular internationally is used to showcase local productions.
Speaking about the novel concept, festival organizer, M. Safeer said that the main aim of the Black Box Theatre and the festival was to give an experience of an international theatre festival to our theatre goers.
“Performing in this type of theatre which is comparatively small and has a close contact with the audience would be an unforgettable experience to theatre lovers,” he said. The Black Box of Inter Act Art is comprised of a mini auditorium with 40 seat capacity in addition to its academy, bookshop, library and cafe.
There are no conditions for this festival and any work of art with any themes and presentation could be performed at this festival.
During the festival two daily shows at 4 pm and 6 pm will be presented and they include a play by Janakaraliya (Theatre of the People) (Jan 15), ‘Beany’ stage play by Inter Act Art (IAA) (Jan 16), ‘Empty Space’ by IAA (Jan 17), ‘Vehi Dawasa’ a film by Bhadraji M. Jayatilake (Jan 18), ‘Mathrukavak Netha’ drama by Kapila Kumara Kalinga by Kandy Ranga Ashrama (Jan 19), ‘Pompiniya’ directed by Nadeeka Tharangani by IAA (Jan 20), ‘Thamilean Rockz’ musical by Vickyn and Keethan (Jan 21), ‘Raja Sisu Varuna’, a musical directed by Rathna Lalani Jayakody together with Royal College (Jan 22), ‘Youth New Wave’ short film (Jan 23), ‘Nirwasthra’ drama directed by Aruna Priyantha (Jan 25), ‘Wasath Kalaya’ a dance by Nadeeka and Mansah (Jan 26 and 27) and Black Box Theatre Presentation directed by M. Safeer (Jan 28).
