The first public screening of multi-talented artist Bhadraji Mahinda Jayatilake’s maiden film ‘Vehi Dawasa’ (Rainy Day) will be screened during Sri Lanka Theatre Festival at Black Box Theatre in Rajagiriya.
Made based on his own novel under the same title the film will be screened at 4 pm and 6 pm on February 18. Bhadraji’s book was selected as one of the best ten novels at the State Literary Award in that year and has now gone into its third printing.
A creation of a moment’s inspiration, ‘Vehi Dawasa’ unfolds an incident on a rainy day. ‘One rainy day as I was traveling to the mountain, I found myself driving between a bus load of singing and joyful actors and a set of people breaking rocks at a quarry.
At that moment the whole story of ‘Rainy Day’ flashed through my mind’ Bhadraji said describing the source of inspiration for the story. Bhadraji who has many medium of art to his credit is well-known as an award winning writer, painter, musician and singer.
‘Vehi Dawasa’ is played by Hemantha Prasad, Prabha Sandaseeli, Udeni Alwis, Sangeetha Thadani, Sanet Dikkumbura, Lakshan Sanju, Visaka Jayaweera, Prasad Deshapriya, Bibishana Coorey and Bhadraji himself.
Art directed by Nalaka Jinendra, edited by Damitha Chandrasiri and make up by Prem Jayantha Kapuge. M. Safeer is the production executive and ‘Vehi Dawasa’ is produced and directed by Bhadraji. |
