In celebrating the African American history month the American Center will showcase yet another beautiful cinematic gem, ‘Glory’ set in the backdrop of US Civil war.
1989 American war drama based on the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry will be screened at 6.00 p.m. on February 16.
The film is directed by Edward Zwick and it flows as told from the point of view of its commanding officer, Robert Gould Shaw during the American Civil War.
The 54th was one of the first formal units of the U.S. Army to be made up entirely of African-American men. Shaw was an officer in the Federal Army during the American Civil War who volunteered to lead the first company of black soldiers.
Shaw was forced to deal with the prejudices of both the enemy (who had orders to kill commanding officers of blacks), and of his own fellow officers.
The film stars Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes, Morgan Freeman, Andre Braugher, John Finn and Cliff DeYoung. The film won three Oscars and was nominated for ten others. |
