In its commitment to providing education to marginalised and less privileged children, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd (CBL) recently extended its well known CSR scheme, Munchee Tikiri Shishyadara, to the children of prisoners.

The scholarships were handed over to the children at a simple ceremony held at the Welikada Prison, recently where Major General V.R. Silva, Commissioner General of prisons was the chief guest.
Started 10 years ago by CBL, as a community development project, Munchee Tikiri Shishyadara has thousands of beneficiaries and ranked number one among CBL’s impressive CSR portfolio.

CBL is ready to continue assisting the top line students who have achieved excellent results at Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations, with further higher education, the company said in a statement.
“Munchee Tikiri Shishyadara aims to maximize educational opportunities for those in need, and we are happy to extend this programme to children of inmate prisoners who otherwise would not have an opportunity,” said Nandana Wickramage, Group Director & Head of Marketing & Sales of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd.
Mr Wickramage noted that the educational support programme has helped some students from rural schools who have obtained straight A’s in all the subjects offered at ‘O’Levels progress to very good A’ Level results that have enabled them to gain entrance to the Medical College.
“In these instances, we provide the support all through their university years,” he added. |
