Jaffna Central defeated St. Xavier’s College Mannar by one wicket in the final of the 3rd Twenty20 inter-school cricket tournament played at the Jaffna Central ground to retain the Noel A. Vimalendran trophy which was on offer.
St. Xavier’s Mannar taking part in the tournament for the first time gave the experienced Jaffna Central side some anxious moments before going down by one wicket. The tournament organized by Jaffna College for the third successive year saw 13 teams participating which also included St. Sylvester’s Kandy.
Initially there were 15 teams down to contest the tournament but unfortunately two teams from Colombo - Thurstan and Isipathana - who had entered, were unable to make it as they are figuring in their traditional T20 contest which is scheduled to be played today.
The 13 teams that participated in the tournament were hosts Jaffna College Vaddukkodai, Victoria College Chulipuram, St. John’s Jaffna, Skandavarodhaya College Thellipalai, Nuffield School Kaithady, St Xavier’s Mannar, Jaffna Hindu College, Jaffna Central, Kokuvil Hindu College, Manipay Hindu College, St Patrick’s Jaffna and St. Sylvester’s Kandy. |
