Peterites retain Rev Fr. Peter S. Pillai trophy

St. Peter’s recorded a comfortable five wicket win over traditional rivals St. Joseph’s in the annual 36th limited over encounter played at the P. Sara Stadium yesterday. The Peterite win was initiated by opener Shehan Fernando and Denham Perera who put on a partnership of 102 runs for the second wicket.

Shehan cracked a 70 while Denham contributed 45. Later in the innings skipper Chathura Peiris made a quick-fire unbeaten 59 enabling the Petes, chasing 203 for victory, to reach the target in the 45th over.
Earlier in the morning session St. Joseph’s invited to take first lease of the wicket by Peterite skipper Chathura struggled until the half way stage of the innings and recovered to make a modest 202 with Lahiru Jayaratne taking four wickets.
