By lunch on day two, Trinity had put themselves in a good position to force a win in their 94th Big Match at the Asgiriya Stadium yesterday.
If they do pull off a win, they will be breaking a near 24-year old drought.
Batting again 76 runs in arrears, the Antonians lost two vital early wickets. Wickremasekera was caught out of his crease and stumped. Skipper Kumarasinghe succumbed to the pressure came out and lofted carelessly to extra mid-off. Woods and Sarathchandra batted away doggedly till lunch.
Resuming at 145 for 7, the overnight pair of Wickrema and Jayawardena pushed on and played attractively. Wickrema played the sweep with telling effect and was most unfortunate to miss a richly-deserved big match fifty as his two partners deserted him in next to no time.
Left arm spinner Adil Reyal, who opened the bowling, operated for long spells and for the most part, kept things under control. His five wickets were thoroughly deserved.
