Sri Lankan satellite television distance learning education channel Nenasa TV recently added 250 more schools across nine provinces, out of which 45 were Tamil-medium schools situated in the North and East provinces, to a network already spanning 100 schools island-wide; according to a statement by Dialog Telekom, the company responsible for 'gifting' the channel to the country's Ministry of Education.
With a total of 350 schools now serviced by Nenasa TV, which broadcasts the national education curriculum in both Sinhala and Tamil; the government's goal of connecting 1,000 schools and 500,000 students during 2010 is more than one-third accomplished.
According to the statement, "Sinhala and Tamil curricular content for Nenasa is developed by the National Institute for Education, and caters to the Ordinary Level syllabus in addition to teacher-training and skills development programming. The Advanced Level curriculum will be added to Nenasa in the near future. The digital satellite broadcast is supplemented with a Learning Management System (LMS) through which students can interact with learning material via the Internet.
The Nenasa LMS enables children who have access to the Internet to download educational material on Nenasa from the Internet via www.nenasa.lk". |
