Northern Governor Major General, G.A.Chandrasiri has granted permission to transport trading stock, freely through Omanthai, in line with security obligations when a delegation from the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCISL) met him in Vavuniya on March 6.
Restrictions to the business enterprises to operate their business activities along the eastern side of the A9 Road too were lifted, the chamber said in a statement.
It said governor advised entrepreneurs in Kilnochchi and Mullaitivu to visit the final war zone areas in consultation with the area security commander in Mullaitivu district and identify their assets left behind during the conflict.
“People in Kilnochchi and Mullaitivu have lost everything during the conflict and this move would help to rebuild the lives of the people,” said FCCISL President Kosala Wickramanayake.
The business community has also sought government assistance to obtain Rs. 1 million grant for repairs and minor construction work of the damaged business building premises and a further Rs. 2.5 million soft loan as capital to re start their businesses i Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts. They requested Central Bank authorities along with the state banks to be involved in this facilitation of funds, the chamber statement said.
This delegation included Mr Wickramanayake and was led by Advisor, Northern and Eastern regional chambers, W.J. Soosairatnam.
