Sri Lanka's tourism has the opportunity to transform from being a buyers market for nearly 30 years to a sellers market. This indeed is a challenge for us and we must take it head on. In the past, overseas tour operators determined what we offered and most of our tourism infrastructure and operations was developed to suit the needs of the low and mid end markets.
Today, with the advent of possibilities to reach out to potential tourists on the Internet and other direct marketing channels and the nature of the changing demand for more holistic and interactive experiences, we need to gear ourselves to do things differently.
