While there is a lot of interest in Sri Lanka on the part of the Malaysian political establishment, Malaysia's private sector is as keen or even more so in exploring the country's business opportunities, especially because the flying time between both countries is just three and a half hours.
This was noted by the Malaysian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Rosli Ismail, at the official launch of the first International Business Leaders' Forum; the inaugural event of a proposed annual series to be organised by the 135-member Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council, which functions under the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, that is slated for Wednesday, June 9, at Colombo's Cinnamon Grand hotel.
It was also noted that this event will feature former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamed as its keynote speaker; said to be speaking on his role in transforming Malaysia's economy from agriculture-based to industrial-based, particularly in themidst of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997. Dr. Mohamed is currently a sought after international speaker and also plays the role of advisor to Malaysian oil giant Petronas and car manufacturer Proton amongst other companies. |
