Grassroots to apex of success

Book review

Life lessons and business principles of 25 leading Sri Lankan entrepreneurs have been blended with their autobiographies right through the pages of “Mahapolawen Sandaluthalayata - Grass roots to apex of success” compiled in Sinhala by Manjula Prabath Hettiarachchi, a journalist with 15 years experience.

The book highlights the stories of leading entrepreneurs like Victor Hettigoda, W.K. H.Wegapitiya, Odiris Perera, Gamini Saparamadu, Russel Francis Perera, Ariyaseela de Silva Wickremanayake, Mallika Hemachandra and Asoka Wimaladharma who reached the zenith of success with self determination as the elementary source of capital.

What comes across most in this book is the interrelationship between success in business and success in life. Their success in business, Prabath reminds us, comes from serving others and connecting on a human level.

One of the points that stood out most to me was that success, at its core, is rooted in our everyday behavior: Whether we make our bed in the morning or pick up a piece of litter on the ground is symbolic of the fact that successful entrepreneurs see a need and they fill that need. Now, I make my bed every morning!

The book teaches us not only how to be successful in the business world, but how to lead good lives – because when it comes down to it, the two really are one and the same! I’m confident you will enjoy this effort and draw value from the stories and lessons that are shared within the pages of this book. – Bandula Sirimanna.
