“We are One- Let the Magic Begin”, will certainly be a spellbinding experience as the talent of both the Junior and Intermediate choirs, of the internationally acclaimed Souls Sounds ensemble, perform on June 10.
The concert, which is an annual Soul Sounds Academy event, will predominantly feature the Soul Sounds Academy Chorus, that unlike the premiere female ensemble, consists of young girls and boys.
The Soul Sounds Academy has over 150 students, and they will be presenting a broad range of repertoire covering Broadway, Disney and contemporary pop songs as well as songs from the musicals. The selection of songs will entertain both the young and the young at heart.
Aside from the concert being an annual show, it is a fund raiser for the Soul Sounds Academy Chorus, as they will be participating at the Llangollen International Musical Eistedfodd in Wales, under the Childrens’ choir category, next month.
Soul Sounds has competed in the competition in 2004, at which they were awarded as first runner up under the youth choir category. Soundarie David Rodrigo, the musical director and her team members would like to give these young children a choral experience not be forgotten, and taking part at this prestigious competition is bound to not only give these young children a taste of what choral singing is all about, globally, but will also once again showcase Sri Lankan talent abroad.
The choirs will be accompanied by Soundarie on the piano, Neranjan De Silva on keyboards and Christopher Prins on drums.
The choir is conducted by Dinushka Jayawickreme, and produced by Lilanka Botejue, while the choir’s artistic director is Jerome L de Silva.
For an evening of enchanting song, be at the Lionel Wendt Theatre at 7:30pm. Tickets for the concert are priced Rs. 1000, 750, 500 and 300. |
