Brazilian/Indian singer Carlyta Mouhini, whose Latin dance song ‘Salome’ is among the hit songs in the latest Hritish Roshan starrer movie ‘Kites’, was in Colombo to be part of the IIFA weekend celebrations in Colombo.
Kites is now running to packed audiences at Regal, Colombo.
She was also the star attraction at the launch of ‘bollywood.lk’, the website dedicated to Bollywood fantasy, at the Silk Club at CH&FC. She performed at the web launch and will be the top attraction of ‘bollywood.lk’ live concert to be held in Sri Lanka soon.
Born of Indiana and Brazilian parentage, Carlyta came to Bombay around five years ago and since then has had several Hollywood Hits to her credit including Dilli ki Saardi”, ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Race’ . ‘My music is all fusion with grooves of flamenco mixed with Indian music to give a unique flavour’, she says.
Her ventrue into Bollywood has been a rewaradaing one.Earlier this year Carlyta was rewarded with an award from NBC for her music and she is also a nominee for a grassroots Grammy at the awards to be held in November this year.
Carlyta first came to Sri Lanka in 2004 to shoot a music video and has since grown fond of the country.‘I have a lot of faith in Buddhism and its philosophy of life. I think that it is the faith in Buddhism that has helped Sri Lanka to recover so quickly from a long drawn out war,’ she said.
She also believes in giving back to society what she can and hence is the brand ambassador for the NGO - HOPE which helps orphan children. Her work also benefits children in Sri Lanka as the NGO helps out a home in Galle with around 90 orphans.
Carlyta’s other love is writing and has a Mass Communication Degree from Calcutta University. Her articles have appeared in various journals across the world. She is currently the Special Correspondent to ‘Media Mag International’ |
