Mervyn opposes Kandy road plan

By Shane Seneviratne

Deputy Highways Minister Mervyn Silva yesterday voiced his opposition to the re-opening of the road in front of the Dalada Maligawa.

Mr Silva made the remarks during a meeting with the Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayaka Thera of the Malwatte chapter.

He pointed out that vehicles illegally carrying cattle and those transporting illicit liquor would use the road passing the Dalada Maligawa.

Currently, the public take a circuitous route around the lake to reach the Kandy city.
