The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) yesterday raided an illegal radio station operated by a politician in the Puttalam area, police said.
The station, known as ‘Puttalam FM’, was being run by a former Deputy Minister who was reportedly using it for political propaganda as well.
Equipment worth around Rs 5 million including a transmitter was recovered during the raid, police said adding that they did not arrest anyone.
Sources said the politician had made an unsuccessful attempt to secure the release of the equipment. |
