The Deputy Minister of State Resources and Enterprise Development, Sarath Gunaratne, told Parliament that he was not involved in throwing a bottle of water at Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe during the budget debate last Saturday.
The Sunday Times reported last week that it was Mr. Gunaratne who had been involved in the incident.
Responding to the Deputy Minister, Opposition Chief Whip John Amaratunga said that it was Mr. Sarana Gunawardena who had thrown the bottle.
The Deputy Minister, however, told the Sunday Times that although it was suspected that a member from his row had thrown the bottle he was not involved in the incident. “The person who threw the bottle seems to be an expert. If he is an MP, he should be appointed a Deputy Minister,” he said.
The video of the incident was not available for the media for scrutiny. |
