Mount Lavinia Jazz Festival, one of the largest and most talked about Jazz festivals in Asia, will come alive on 15 and 17 October. The 2010 festival has attracted some of the most acclaimed Jazz artistes across the globe who have performed in leading Jazz Festivals like Java Jazz, Bangkok Jazz festival, Jazz Yatra, are just a few to mention and indeed ‘the authentic Jazz’ local stars that claims the jazz movement in Sri Lanka.
Festival of Jazz on Paradise Beach will be on Friday and Saturday, 15th and 16th, while Jazz at the Mount Sunday Brunch will be on Sunday, the 17 October.
Tickets for the festival are priced at Rs. 1000/- each day and the weekend pass only for Friday and Saturday are priced at Rs 1500/-.
Seafood and Jazz at the Seafood Cove will be the top attraction on Friday and Saturday Nights for Rs. 3000/- and Rs 2800/- respectively per head, which includes a three course set menu, 450ml of wine and entrance to Jazz.
Tickets could be purchased at Mount Lavinia Hotel and at the Mount Lavinia Catering Office at BMICH and Jazz on the Field at CR&FC on 10 October.
This year’s foreign artiste line up consists of Jazz Septet from HongKong namely ‘Dylan Lye and friends’, Jazz Septet namely OHZone led by Andrew Oh from Sydney, the Jazz Quartet from UK with Dave O’Higgins Quartet, Jazz Quartet with Blick Bassy. The new soul voice of Cameroon - soul in the sense of vocals that come from within. He connects the music of Central and West Africa and mixes it with bossa nova, jazz and soul. Bassy’s guitar playing and intoxicating, soft voice are enriched by the kora, calabash and a double bass resulting in a unique, haunting sound which is velvety with subtle harmonies, yet also raw with groovy rhythms.
Also Jazz quartet from India named Frank Dubier Jazz Quartet - one of India’s foremost trumpet players. He has over 50 years of musical experience. His band has chosen to play jazz standards and classics.
