Sri Lankan film lovers will have a rare opportunity to experience Hungarian cinema at the two-day-film festival held today and tomorrow (October 11) at 6.30 pm at the National Film Corporation Theatre, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07.
Organised by the Government of the Republic of Hungary, the Festival is to commemorate the 1956 Hungarian Revolution “Hope of Freedom” and the public are invited to view the rich cinematic culture of these films from Hungary.
On Sunday the feature drama “The Investigator” a story based on assassination of a person for want of money to cure for his mother suffering from spinal cord cancer, without knowing that he was making the greatest mistake in his life.
Directed by Attila Gigor, the film revolves around Tibor Malkáv an ordinary 37-year-old man, who has serious communication problems. He is precise and silent. Though not rich, he can buy whatever he needs. He doesn’t depend on his job financially. He loves being a forensic pathologist. A few floors up in the hospital where he works lies his mother with cancer in her spinal cord. No matter how speechless or shallow this relationship is, Malkav has no other relatives. He promises he will not let her die.
But the surge ry can only be performed in Sweden and the cost is far beyond Malkav’s means. One day a one-eyed person introducing himself as the Cyclops sits at his dinner table and makes him an offer: if Malkáv kills an unknown person, the Cyclops will provide the money for the Swedish hospital. Malkáv takes on the job. But the movie takes a dramatic turn when two days later Malkáv receives a letter from his own victim.
On Monday, October 11, it will feature “S.O.S.Love” another award winning film based on a man incapable of conquering his beloved. The story is based on romance and a touch of comedy.
Directed by Tamás Sas the film questions what a man can do if he’s incapable of conquering his beloved? What can he do if he’s hopelessly in love? What if he has the money, but not the manners? What if this time money can’t buy love, and the usual dating chat is not enough? And this film tries to answer the eternal questions of romantic comedies.
Peter is the head of a high-tech matchmaking agency, ‘S.O.S. Love’, which helps its wealthy clients solve their problematic love affairs. Their market share is rising, and their effectiveness is 100% - all until Tomi, a rich upstart, has a fit and leans on them to get busy.
Tomi is hopelessly in love with Veronika, a lovely kindergarten teacher, but even with the help of ‘S.O.S. Love’, he can’t conquer her. Peter’s hellish plan is to rent a castle out-of-town and populate it with company staff, bringing Tomi into a ‘family’ circle. Finally, he wants to lure Veronika to the castle with a brilliant excuse. |
