President at C’wealth Games: Questions over Hambantota

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to attend the closing ceremony of the 19th Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on Thursday as Sri Lanka continues its bid to host the 2018 games.

Sri Lanka failed to show up and present its bid to host the 2018 Games in Hambantota at a meeting with the Games’ governing body in New Delhi last week, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation said.

It said the mayor of the Gold Coast, the Australian city which is the only rival to Hambantota in the battle to host the game, expressed surprise over Sri Lanka’s no show.
