National Identity Cards (NICs) are not obtained as easily and speedily as reader Nanda Nanayakkara suggests in his letter entitled “Documents processed extra fast” (Sunday Times, October 17).
I am a senior citizen, 78 years of age. I recently visited the Department of Registration of Persons to renew my NIC under the one-day delivery service. I expected my card to be processed in two or three hours. Instead, I had to spend the entire day at the department, waiting to get my new NIC.
One would have expected a government department to have taken into consideration an applicant’s age and done something to speed up the process.
