The Biyagama Base Hospital recently re-opened its doors after a structural and interior makeover to improve its service to the community. Thousands of patients who rely upon the facility in the Biyagama area will benefit from the renovations that have adressed areas of the hospital that were in need of urgent repair, according to Fonterra Brands, the main corporate sponsors of the project.
The improvements included repairs to the ceiling of the dental clinic, structural repairs to the doors and windows of the wards, the fixing of a new fence and exterior gate along with a new coat of paint to the entire hospital. Through these enhancements, the hospital is now able to provide a safer and cleaner environment for the 450 patients who use this hospital on a daily basis.
Speaking at the hospital’s official opening ceremony, Dr Edirisinghe, Chief Medical Officer of Biyagama Hospital said: “This is something that the hospital has needed for many years and, now that it has been achieved, we are pleased to be able to offer our patients the best possible service possible. The renovation is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication by all involved and will benefit the community greatly.”
The structural repair and refurbishment of the hospital’s exterior and interior was led and funded by Fonterra Brands Lanka, following discussions with Dr Edirisinghe on the facility’s immediate needs. The initiative took two months and also involved input from staff of Fonterra and the hospital to make the vision a reality. |
