A 3-day Trade Fair titled "Trincomalee opens its doors" was held in the eastern port city last week aimed at creating a venue to showcase local skills, knowledge and products from rural entrepreneurs to a wider, urban market.

It was also to encourage a forum of knowledge sharing between producers, marketers and government personnel with an aim to increase to information and enhance public-private partnership. The fair initiated by the United Nations Industrial Development Orgnization.
(UNIDO) with the support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Trincomalee (CCITD) was held under a UNIDO project to help conflict-affected communities through entrepreneurship.
More than 10,000 people including representatives of business organizations in Colombo and other parts of the country viewed the products exhibited in the fair by rural entrepreneurs, said UNIDO National Project Manager Chellapah Gnanaganeshan based in Trincomalee.
He said the fair was a success and several local producers who exhibited their products had said that the fair had given a hope that they could market their produce at competitive prices. |
