“Sri Lanka is today one of the safest destinations in the world a tourist can expect to fly to,” said Mr Aryasinha in a press statement. He was addressing passengers travelling to Sri Lanka on the maiden Brussels-Colombo Jetairfly-Thomas Cook direct flight, on October, at the Brussels International Airport.
“Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka from Belgium had increased by 82.8% up to September this year,” said Mr Aryasinha. He said this compared well with the 50% increase recorded from Europe, and the 44% increase recorded from around the world, during the same period.
Jetairfly and Thomas Cook have been one of the first European collaborations to recommence direct flights to Sri Lanka. Mr Aryasinha said the collaboration will be a huge boost to the marketing in the entire Benelux region, comprising Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg. |
