Manju second testing on November 12

By Namal Pathirage

The second test of the B Sample of urine belonging to the beleaguered Commonwealth Gold Medalist Manju Wanniarachchi will take place on Friday the 12th at 10 am in New Delhi. The Commonwealth authorities had to postpone the testing amidst a protest by the Sri Lanka delegation on November 2 as they could not provide the documentation regarding the reading.

The delegation comprised Dr. Lal Ekanayake, lawyer Kalinga Indratissa, Prof Chandrika Wijeratne and the Secretary of the Boxing Federation Sri Lanka Col. Hemantha Weerasinghe. The same delegation will represent Sri Lankan interests on Friday too, however the Commonwealth Games Secretariat had notified the Lankan authorities that they would definitely go ahead with the testing on Friday but the presence of the Lankan contingent is not compulsory.

Manju will be present there on Friday to see whether it is the same sample that was sealed in front of him that would be going in for testing. Meanwhile the head of the Sport Ministry Medical Unit Dr. Geethanjana Mendis told The Sunday Times that they are hoping to sue the homeopathic doctor form Kurunegala over the statements that he had made with regard to the case and he said further news about this will be brought to the public’s attention at a press conference that is scheduled for tomorrow November 8.

The Sri Lankan Delegation is keen on probing whether the testing of Sample A was done systematically or if the documentation regarding that had been maintained in a proper manner. They are under the impression that they may be able to find some discrepancy in that and bail the gold medallist Manju Wanniarachchi from his present predicament.
