Okayama’s karate sees popularity kick

The latest karate technique created by veteran Japanese karate and IAIDO (Japanese Traditional Swordsmanship) teacher Mr. Thakahero Okayama is now becoming popular in Sri Lanka. This style belongs to the full contact category and its founding organization is known as Sunpaku Kan Karate Organization.

The founder of this organization, Mr. Thakahero Okayma has already visited Sri Lanka on three occasions to conduct grade tests, training camps and to participate in tournaments.

Sensei Deepal Wickkramaarchchi was the appointed branch manager in Sri Lanka. He is an old boy of Nittambuwa Sanghabodhi College and has been taking a very keen interest in karate and has been learning to master it since childhood. At first he became a member of Kyokushin International Karate Organization and later he became a member of Ashihara International Karate Organization.

In 1999 he participated in the International Karate Tournament held in Denmark representing Sri Lanka. Later respectively in 2002, 2004 and 2006, he represented Sri Lanka with his new students in Japanese International Karate Tournaments. Last year he was awarded the Black Belt 3rd Dan by Kancho Okayma after his grading test. At the moment he also runs a gymnasium and body building center. He has been continuously mastering karate and IAIDO. At present there are large numbers of students who follow the Sunpaku Kan Karate classes conducted by Sensei Wickkramaarchchi.
