Commercial Bank supports University of Jaffna

Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC recently assisted the University of Jaffna by providing computer equipment to its Department of Geography. The five Personal Computers and UPS units funded by the Bank’s CSR Trust would significantly benefit students and staff in areas such as Geographical Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Geology and Hydrology, the bank in a statement quoted university authorities as saying.

“While upgrading the technical competencies of the undergraduates, this contribution will strengthen the traditionally close relationships Commercial Bank has maintained with Jaffna University Authorities. Commercial Bank is particularly proud that, just like the University, we too continued to serve the people of Jaffna throughout the difficult times,” said Richard Rodrigo, AGM - Plan Implementation and Co-ordinator of the CSR Trust of Commercial Bank.

Past initiatives of the Commercial Bank’s CSR Trust include granting of scholarships to undergraduates, setting up IT Labs in schools, conducting programmes aimed at upgrading the standard of English Education, assisting Children’s Homes, donating healthcare equipment and assisting the vocational training of prisoners.

Picture shows Commercial Bank’s Chief Operating Officer - Ravi Dias handing over the computer equipment to Prof. S Kugabalan, former Head of the Geography Department of the Jaffna University.
