The book contains the views of a dragnet of cricket luminaries in contemporary cricket in Sri Lanka who has expressed their views and personal experiences in a series of fifty episodes in a booklet that runs into 224 pages.
The author Rex Clementine has spared no pains in bringing this series of articles out as a book to coincide with the 2011 Cricket World Cup which is still in progress.
From Rags to Riches contains the 1996 World Cup winning experiences of personalities like skipper Arjuna Ranatunga himself, Aravinda de Silva, Asanka Gurusinha, Sanath Jayasuriya, Hashan Tillekeratne and the ‘think tanks’ behind that effort – Ana Punchihewa – President of the BCCSL, Cricket Manager, Chief Selector Duleep Mendis and coach Davnell Whatmore.
Besides another plethora of eminent cricketers in the calibre of Sidath Wettimuny, Anura Tennekone, Ranjit Fernando, Michael Tissera and Bandula Warnapura – all ofwhom have played in the pre-96 World Cups also have shared their experiences in Sri Lanka’s conversion from team of back wood trundlers to a cup winning outfit.
I feel this is a superb collection of stories on cricket which every cricket enthusiast should have in his library. -S.R. Pathiravithana
