Sri Lanka Cricket’s Southern Province Coach Sisira Handunge was invited to conduct a two day coaching camp for members of the under 15 and under 17 teams of St. Servatius College Matara. District Coach Galle, Lasith Chaminda and District Coach Matara Prasanna Galappaththi assisted Handunge.
The batting and bowling actions of each player were video taped and analyzed. Faulty actions if any were pointed out and corrected. Fitness, endurance, speed, agility and flexibility of each member was tested and recorded. They were quizzed on the knowledge of fielding positions and lectured on being prepared mentally.
Advanced batting drills and bowling skills were introduced and carried out. The value of warming up, stretching and cooling down were explained and resulting injuries by failing to do so were explained.
The coaching camp was of great benefit to the players and was conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket on request.
