Carlton Sports Club Super Sevens will be worked off for the 3rd consecutive year with two legs being played for the first time in the format of IPL (Indian Premier League). First leg will be worked off in Kandy at Nittawela Rugby Stadium on October 29 and 30 and the second in Colombo at the Royal Sports Complex on 5 & 6 November.
Ronny Ibrahim director of Carlton Sports speaking to the Sunday Times said that this was a measure of developing the junior level players in each team who will field at least one under 21 player. Further the maximum of two foreign players will be allowed.
He ended by saying that the players will be insured and paid for this tournament and added that George Simpkin who is no stranger for Sri Lankan Rugby Circle will be the Tournament Director once more.
Some leading players from Fiji, USA, Wales and Portugal were contracted by the teams along with some top foreign coaches. A Caravelli (USA national Sevens Coach), Paul Johns (Former Wales assistant Coach), Chris Roche (Former Australians player cum Coach), Lliessa Tanivula (Fiji Sevens Coach), Pedro Ferdinenze (Former Portugal Coach) and Scott Pierce (former Japan and New Zealand "A" team Coach) and Visalie Serevei (Former Fiji Sevens player and Coach) will be the Men behind the teams coaching them.
