But even then the three matches which began on Friday too did not have a full day's play with stoppages in between and later the umpires was forced to call off the matches early. The three matches which were played at Bambalapiyita (St. Peter's vs Trinity) and the other two at Moratuwa (Prince of Wales vs Mahinda) and (St. Sebastian's vs DSS at Sebs grounds) were called off before 5.00 p.m. on day one.

The match at Bambalapitiya on day two got off to a late start with no play being possible in the morning session due to the wet wicket. The match got off only at 12.30 p.m. with Trinity resuming on their overnight score of 40 for no loss ending the day with the score on 197 for 7. The game ultimately ending in a no decision.

They were well placed at one stage with the score reading 100 for 2 but lost four quick wickets just before tea. This was in reply to the Peterites' score of 221 for 6 declared with man in form Lahiru Malintha making a top score of 101 with 13 boundaries. He was well supported by Janith Liyanage who made 57 before he retired hurt. This was Malintha's second successive ton having made an identical knock against St. Aloysius last week.

The match between Prince of Wales and Mahinda surprisingly started off in time with Mahinda making a great comeback. After being dismissed for 165 they struck back to restrict the Cambrians who were resuming from their overnight score of 30 for 2 to 138. The wreckers of the Cambrian innings were skipper Chalana de Silva and Sohan Kariyawasam who together shared eight wickets between them. But the Mahindians were in deep trouble when they went to bat the second time as they went into tea with the score at 32 for 4 before being bowled out for 108. Cambrians left arm spinner Shanuka Dulaj had a fine match ending with a match bag of 11 for 126.

At St. Sebastian's ground the match between St. Sebastian's and DSS was delayed for nearly two hours before starting at 11.30 a.m. DSS resuming from their overnight score of 124 for 8 went on to make a respectable 183 thanks to an unbeaten 49 coming from Ruchintha Karunaratne. Sri Lanka youth player and left arm spinner Amila Aponso ended with top figures of 5 for 32.

St. Sebastian's in their turn were made to work hard for their runs and at tea they were struggling on 82 for 6 before they recovered through their late order batting to finish the day on 151 for 9 when bad light stopped play.
